Objective signs of alcohol intoxication
After you have been stopped and/or contacted by a police officer or sheriff’s deputy and he/she smells the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from your breath or person, or from inside the vehicle generally, or for some other reason (like your driving pattern) suspects that you have consumed alcoholic beverages and are driving, he/she will start to look for other indicators to substantiate the belief that you are DUI.
Some of these additional indicators are:
- Bloodshot/red eyes
- Watery Eyes
- Flushed face
- Slurred/slow speech
- Speaking too softly or loudly
- Difficulty with motor skills (retrieving driver's license, registration & insurance)
- Difficulty exiting your vehicle
- Balance and coordination difficulties (swaying, falling down, or leaning/holding onto car)
- Disheveled appearance
